{"id":4320,"date":"2015-04-01T10:46:04","date_gmt":"2015-04-01T14:46:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/oddpla.net\/modernwizard\/?p=4320"},"modified":"2015-04-02T15:48:49","modified_gmt":"2015-04-02T19:48:49","slug":"things-that-will-eventually-be-grammatically-correct-even-though-they-currently-arent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/oddpla.net\/modernwizard\/2015\/04\/01\/things-that-will-eventually-be-grammatically-correct-even-though-they-currently-arent\/","title":{"rendered":"Things that will eventually be grammatically correct, even though they currently aren&#8217;t"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are a few linguistic errors that I encounter with such frequency that I really think that they will eventually move into standard, accepted use:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Apostrophes <del>in<\/del> to signify possessives.<\/li>\n<li>Quotation marks as a means of emphasis.<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;I&#8221; replacing &#8220;me&#8221; as a direct object, but only in conjunction with another pronoun. I encounter this exchange pretty much daily, in which people of all educational and socioeconomic backgrounds will say something like, &#8220;Let&#8217;s find some time for you and I to meet.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As a result, the following sentence will eventually be perfectly acceptable:<\/p>\n<p><em>Let&#8217;s find some time for you and I to meet &#8220;really&#8221; soon about your proposal&#8217;s.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>After that, all the prescriptivists&#8217; heads will explode!!!! :p<\/p>\n<p>Actually, I think that the third item will gain ground much more quickly than the first two.
