I finally got motivated recently to finish a project that has been in the works for several years: the Third Doctor in 1:6 scale!
I got the BCS Third Doctor almost a year ago, but I disliked the serious, frowning headsculpt. I sold that along with some other accoutrements to a friend, leaving me with a headless Doctor.
I was looking forward to using a BCS Bobble Buddy [bobblehead] of the Third Doctor, as it had a more humorous expression. However, BCS is having a shipping problem, along with everyone else, so all its products [including the Delgado Master I preordered 500 years ago T_T ] are delayed.
I had a cartoony Titans 3″ vinyl head that I thought I might use in place of the bobblehead, but dithered about using it. Yesterday I finally got around to opening the neck hole on the Titans head enough to put it on a 1:6 scale body. Then I did a repaint. Beneath the simple default paint ops, there’s a wonderfully stylized, instantly recognizable, and even cute [?!] caricature of Three. The exaggerated features appeal to me much more than the realistic ones of BCS, and I did very little work to bring out the best in the sculpt. I overpainted the eyes, as usual, emphasized some major wrinkles, and drew in a slight smile to go along with my concept of the Third Doctor as a playful, silly character. I may do some dry brushing on the hair, but Three is now mostly complete!
My Third Doctor has a BCS Third Doctor body, hands, sonic screwdriver, shirt, pants, and bootfeet. The head, as I mentioned, is from a repainted Titans 3″ vinyl figure. I felt that the outfit that came with the BCS Three — white shirt, black smoking jacket, black pants, black tie, black opera jacket lined with red — didn’t adequately capture Three’s flamboyance, so I made my own tie out of blue velvet ribbon. I replaced the smoking jacket with a more eye-catching one from Fashion Royalty Homme Cabot’s Love Is Love Wedding outfit.
I dressed the Magister up as the Master and put him with Three so that Three would have someone to interact with.
