Next we went to the doll tea party, where we met up with some BJD lovers that we had seen at previous Otakuthons. Dolls are identified according to the order in which their photos appear in this post.

To the BJD tea time, Lyra brought [in consecutive order] Volks YoSD Lynn, Smartdoll Felicity, Volks Dollfie World Cup head 1 on VOlks SDgr body, Bimong Meronica, and Ruby Lane Lea.

Flowerful.BJD brought BJD photo, cats in tea, and tea things that I made a mess with later.

Joanne brought flower crowns and harnesses for sale, unknown 1:4 scale BJD, and Myou Alicia.

Charmyc [on DOA] brought Alchemic Lab Chibi Lilin roar, Luts Zuzu Delf Lee, Volks Dollfie Dream 22, Luts Kid Delf Ani, Eve Studios Oriental cat.
The Chibi Lilin had such an expressive faceplate with a silly grimace, useful for many different occasions.

I was very happy to see a large 1:3 scale Eve Studios cat BJD. I used to have a 1:6 scale one, and the 1:3 scale one was so much bigger and easier to pose!

I brought Allison and Marvin. People who were more familiar with BJDs oohed and aahed over my 1:6ers’ detail, poseability, and ability to hold tiny props.
Nan supplied some ice cream bought from Taobao for Marvin.

We made a chaotic tea party with lots of foods from Flowerful.BJD. She encouraged us to “make a big mess” with her food props, and she was delighted that Allison and Marvin attracted an excited crowd.

Sandrine added her Soom Gato Cheshire Cat and Frappzilla Asteria Foxglove as guests.

I saw a person in one of the entrances to the Palais in a wonderful outfit. I thought that they were cosplaying Bill Potts from S10 Doctor Who, but nope…those were just their regular clothes. Lyra said that she looked like one of my dolls. Accurate! Actually, with the natural hair and brightly colored top, she most reminds me of Allison [but with glasses]!

After lunch, at the BJD marketplace, Andrea Mills brought her Supiadoll Hael and Smartdoll Chitose. She made the patterns for the skeletal pelvises, cut them out with her Cricut cutter, and ironed them on the pleather!!

At the BJD marketplace, Lyra bought a Volks Dollfie Dream torso, a wig for Meronica, and a wig and shoes for her Smartdoll.

At 3:30 PM, after the BJD marketplace, we went to our usual buffet place, Restaurant Jade in Chinatown, and gorged on cheap Chinese food.

I took a few pictures of familiar locations, including the door to the locked parking garage two blocks from the hotel, just off Rue Saint-Urbain, where we park for the weekend. It’s $35.00 a day. I am most fascinated by the fact that, after I pay for parking, I need to generate a random code [printed on a ticket] and then punch that code in on a keypad to unlock the garage door for reentry. I backed the FLE car very carefully into one of the rather narrow spots right near the door.

The weekend of Otakuthon has often overlapped with the weekend during which Montreal celebrates Pride! The city’s festival fierte [Pride festival] is on Sunday, August 7th.

I also took a shot of the good ol’ Travelodge. We paid $190.00 a night for a squashed two-person room and breakfast included. With aggressive air conditioning, reasonably supportive beds, an unbeatable location on the edge of Otakuthon and Chinatown, and decent breakfast, the Travelodge serves all our requirements well.

I took a pic of an alarmingly symmetrical bust of Rene Levesque [1922-1987], who gave his name to the street that the Travelodge is on. Apparently he was the 23rd premier of Quebec from 1976 to 1985.
We turned in really early on Saturday, like 8:30 PM. The next day we finished breakfast by 7:30 AM and departed for home by 7:45 AM. Early Sunday morning meant almost no traffic, and we had mild, sunny weather. We hit the border at 9:00 AM, just as a third lane was being opened to check people through. We crossed into the United States in 25 minutes and got to my parents’ house about 10:00 AM, where it was grossly hot and humid. Lyra picked up her car where she had parked it in their garage and then drove for almost two more hours back to her home in West Lebanon, NH. Having successfully achieved our Otakuthon fix for the year, we look forward to future cons!
