I just came across the word “vegangelical” in an New York Times article about dietary differences among couples.

Here’s the relevant quote:
Dynise Balcavage, 42, an associate creative director at an advertising agency and vegan who lives in Philadelphia, said she has been happily married to her omnivorous husband, John Gatti, 53, for seven years.
“We have this little dance we’ve choreographed in the kitchen,” she said. She prepares vegan meals and averts her eyes when he adds anchovies or cheese. And she does not show disapproval when he orders meat in a restaurant.
“I’m not a vegangelical,” she said. “He’s an adult and I respect his choices just as he respects mine.”
A “vegangelical” is a zealous vegan who wants to convert others to his or her dietary habits. It’s a clever neologism for a certain subset of those who practice veganism.

Hah. That’s like what the boy and I do. Although he usually orders vegan dishes when we eat out together so that we can share.
That said I do want to convert others, but getting on their case is not really a good way to do so.
heh. perfect word.
that said, the less crazy ones just about have me interested.
If I met a vegan who didn’t look like a human toothpick, they might just get me.
I’m not a stick
I’m vegan, so are many of my friends. We range from skinny to blubbery just like the rest of you. One of my strictest vegan friends has won statewide weightlifting competitions. I’m not saying y’all have to be vegan, but don’t knock us until you’ve met a few of us.
It is true that some vegans are obnoxious, but to be fair just bringing up animal’s well being seems to piss people off. I am not set on converting everyone, but it surprises me how little most people want to now about what happened to the animals they eat. (There are somewhat more humane options, though they are not cheap.) People should make their own choices, but I think those choices should be educated ones. Google factory farms, and then do what you feel is right.
Re: I’m not a stick
uh, that’s want to know, not want to now. 🙂
