A surprisingly productive day

I did 1513 words today, for 17842/50000, which is 35.68%.

Sarah is talking to two of her friends who live in the same building, so we have an expose on her squalid garrett and her eccentric friends. Everyone in the story is eccentric, which, interestingly enough, makes it more realistic.

Did you ever see “Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown”? There’s a scene in it where Peppermint Patty looks askance at the apron – things the French schoolchildren are wearing. Eventually she decides philosophically “I guess if all of us look weird, then none of us will look weird,” and puts on her own.

I think of that a lot when I’m reading. In the Batman – o – verse, everyone is dangerously insane in some way, so it kind of feels normal that they are. If everyone is quirky, then their quirkiness makes them normal.

Of course, the especially realistic thing about lots of quirky people living together is that in real life people gravitate to others who are like them. 🙂 It’s the overly heterogeneous groups that seem fakey and contrived.
