Disney came out with some ILY 4ever 12″ fashion dolls early this month. They are teenage girls in Disney cartoon style wearing outfits inspired by various Disney princesses. I have very little attachment to Disney princesses and a generally critical view of the Disney entertainment conglomerate, but I immediately started seeing toon dorklets in the various headsculpts. Result: I am now making toon versions of all seven. I bought the Disney ILY 4ever Cinderella fan and Jasmine fan, intending to make Toon Ethancitx and Toon Silencitx first, but, unexpectedly, Toon Night was the one I finished first.

Jasmine fan on left and Cinderella fan on right in the outfits they came with. Some accessories not shown. I originally thought Jasmine fan would be Toon Silencitx and Cinderella fan Toon Ethancitx.
Definitely up to some shit…
The pros of these dolls are the headsculpts with inset eyes and engaging expressions, the solid semi-realistic body shape with thicker limbs and torso than most fashion dolls, and the simple but expressive hand sculpts. The cons of these dolls are all in the poorly designed articulation. Wrist joints are set too deeply in sockets, inhibiting flexion. Elbows are single jointed, barely bending ninety degrees. Worst of all, the shallow hip sockets prevent upright sitting, offer minimal swivel, and make popping the legs off [and on] too easy. An unmodded, default Jasmine fan demonstrates her inability to sit upright and/or touch her face.
Cinderella fan after my poseability mods. I trimmed down the wrist sockets so that the wrists had a wider range of motion. I added notches in the upper forearms to increase elbow flexion by 10 or 15 degrees. I also used my rotary tool to carve out the top of the hip sockets. Now the doll can sit up straight and touch her face!
Besides the poseability mods, I also removed the crappy nylon hair, replacing it with a mohair wig. I gave her a repaint of the eyebrows and mouth, while also adding her facial scars. I blacked out her right eye because I decided that she was filling her socket with a prosthetic at this point. Her outfit refers to her love of ghouls and skulls, as well as the fact that she’s a fire witch! She’s about 14 in toon form. [I originally thought that this was going to be Toon Ethancitx, so I removed the breasts. Then I decided that this worked for Toon Night being late to pubesce.]
