Steampunk airship base

Steampunk airship base published on 1 Comment on Steampunk airship base

This weekend I got in the mail an Our Generation RV Seeing You camper. Though made for 18″ dolls, the camper is undersize for them. With slight modification, it can be made suitable for 1:6ers and turned into a steampunk airship cabin!! There are some pics below of its current state.

Ethan [left] and Silence [right] demonstrate that the counter is too high at the moment.
A look through the front window shows the seat behind the kitchen unit.
Part of the seat unfolds into a bed that is just large enough for one 18″ doll…or two 12″ dolls, assuming Ethan keeps his elbows to himself. :p
A view through the skylight shows that I could remove 25% of the bed length without a problem, but then it would probably fold up weird.

I have big plans for this. Here are some of the changes I want to make:

  • The interior and exterior need a good wash, probably from a garden hose. There’s some accumulated dirt in and on it that needs to be removed before I start customizing.
  • After that, most of the mods concentrate on the kitchen unit. First of all, I need to make a platform about 1″ high so that my dolls can step up and have the counter at the right height.
  • The kitchen parts need to be drastically condensed to make room for the airship controls.
  • Sink will be removed and relocated to the airship bathroom that will not be shown in this set. 😀 Actually, I might try to reuse the sink for one of my kitchens. Anyway, the main control panel will go where the sink was.
  • That’s entirely too much stove and oven. Oven will be turned into storage space, possibly a fridge. At least one burner will disappear, replaced by a microwave.
  • If I add a platform to the floor, then the current fridge [to the left of the stove] won’t open. Fridge door will be removed and space converted to storage.
  • The cabin has propellers and rudders that will not be shown in this set. It’s also attached to a hot air balloon that is filled by hot air from campaign speeches coming out of a gramophone on the roof. Existing skylight will be halved and converted into a functioning hatch so dolls can get up there and maintain the gramophone. A rope ladder needs to be made.
  • In terms of decoration, this airship leans toward the Gothy side of steampunk, so the interior needs some appropriate touches. I have some nice skull print fabric for the curtains and some spiderweb design for the seat cushions.
  • It also needs some strategically placed gargoyles…at least four.

Excellent base unit for an airship gondola!
Crafting an airship control room has been on my action figure agenda for years now, but I have yet to make a start.
I shall be following this project with considerable interest!

Kinda wish you’d pop back in to Figurvore one in a while.
